Agenda
In the last 20 years, the way software and related technology has been sold and bought has transformed greatly. The power has shifted from makers of proprietary features and functionality to integrators to channels including the web to the end consumer who is demanding value based pricing and differentiated services. In parallel, the concepts of software as a service and cloud architectures are changing the dynamics of the fulfilment cycle of that demand. However, the complexities of revenue recognition, tax implications, pricing transparency and consistency are making the fulfilment more complex. In this presentation, we shall deliberate upon what is driving the demand for value based software and related technology, the complexities associated with fulfilling that demand and the technology opportunities that is emerging to help software and technology companies not only mitigate those complexities but take advantage of the opportunities the changing demands present for the next 5 to 7 years.
There are many changes in the software world and there will be more to come. Virtualisation, the rise of software as a service and cloud computing are three drivers for change. How can licensing practices keep up with these changes?
This session explores some of the challenges and solutions faced by OMG / Vicon when it came to integrating their software licensing system with their CRM system. An implementation of a “real time” integration between Salesforce.com and Safenet RMS is discussed in detail. Areas covered include the storage, integration and exposure of customer and licensing information. The efficiencies gained across sales and support departments are covered with emphasis on enabling departments and individuals to focus on their core responsibilities; selling product and supporting customers. Also covered are the ways in which automation streamlines the process of license distribution, minimises data entry errors and allows for management reporting based on licensing information which helps to drive revenue generation.
This presentation will provide an overview of Cisco Software Activation and key components of the solution. It will go over Cisco License Manager details and how it can automate license management operations on a network-wide basis and integrates with other License and Compliance Management systems.
The term Software Asset Management (SAM) has become devalued currency and means very different things to different people – anything from a self audit to a strategic business process. However, SAM has an important role to play in helping end-user organisations not only achieve compliancy, but also to get the best out of their software assets. But until there are recognised standards for SAM, it is going to prove difficult to create any consistency in SAM delivery from channel partners, and the expectations of end-users.
The Business Software Alliance (BSA) believes that once a number of criteria for SAM are brought together a SAM standard will emerge. These criteria are:
-
A single, global, recognised standard – many companies utilising SAM processes operate across borders and require a single, consistent standard in all their markets
-
Vendor neutrality – developed with the knowledge and experience of leading software vendors, but applicable to all situations
-
Flexibility – to accommodate the needs of organisations of all sizes and types
Working with some of the leading global software vendors and ISO, BSA is developing a ‘train-the-trainer’ programme which will be launched in a year’s time which will set a benchmark for SAM that will be to the benefit of end-users, partners and the software vendors.
Trends in Licensing enforcement and management: SafeNet’s perspective on the technical and economic trends affecting the software industry and how solutions from licensing vendors are evolving and responding to these changes.
