Single Sign-On
Overview
With the increased use of applications, employees find themselves juggling multiple passwords that are complex
and required to be changed regularly. More often than not, employees forget their passwords and regularly contact
the Help Desk for resolution.
In a study performed by SafeNet:
- 89% of respondents changed their passwords at least once a year.
- 75% change their passwords at least three times a year.
- 29% change their passwords more than seven times a year.
- The more frequently passwords change, the more time IT departments spend managing username and password changes.
- 64% of respondents admitted to writing down passwords at least once.
Prior to implementing the SafeNet single sign-on solutions, a SafeNet customer determined that the average
user required 3.5 to 4 password resets per year, costing between $10 and $37.50 for each reset. Implementing
SafeNet solutions, which eliminated the need to remember multiple passwords, resulted in a dramatic reduction
of password-related calls to the Help Desk.
Single Sign-On
By using a single sign-on, a user can access all the applications that had previously required additional authentication,
resulting in a decrease in password-related calls to the Help Desk and a more user-friendly experience.
Keep in mind that single sign-on without additional authentication actually weakens an organization's security process.
Why? Should hackers obtain a single sign-on password, they can gain access to a wide range of applications and information.
To increase security and employee convenience, companies must use two-factor authentication devices, like those from
SafeNet, for more secure access to the single sign-on solution.
SafeNet Borderless Security Single Sign-On
The Borderless Security Single Sign-On solution provides a strong authentication-based enterprise Single Sign-On (SSO) product that gives
users the ability to automate logon to all of their applications and the network through one convenient interface.
The SafeNet smart card or iKey™ USB token stores a user's sign-on credentials for a higher factor of assurance and
security. To gain access to all applications and the network through one sign-on interface, the user simply inserts
their smart card or USB token and enters their PIN.
SafeNet also provides a user-controllable password management application, SmartLogon, that gives users the ability
to store all their own user names and passwords on a smart card. The SmartLogon application provides users with a
secure, convenient way to access and log-on to all of their personal programs, applications, or Web sites - all
through a single click of the SmartLogon icon.
