SafeNet Driver Issue - Error 104

We recently experienced a driver signing issue that caused this error to occur with a SuperPro or UltraPro protected application utilizing the Sentinel Protection Installer v7.2.1.  We quickly identified the cause of this issue and have rectified this situation by  providing an updated driver in Sentinel Protection Installer v7.2.2.  You can download this new driver  (recommended - size = 8MB) (Download Driver). or you can download the full Sentinel Protection Installer package (size = 20 MB) (Download Full Sentinel Protection Installer).

Run the set up file provided and follow the instructions on the screen.

If you experience any difficulty with this procedure or recovering from this error please contact SafeNet Technical Support at 800-545-6608 or +1 410-931-7520.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sentinel Protection Installer v7.2.1

What is the problem with the drivers?

SafeNet includes a digital signature with our drivers which supplies additional authenticity validation for the driver within Sentinel software libraries. A time-stamp is included in the digital signature of the driver. Since the signature of the driver in the SPI 7.2.1 driver was not time-stamped, it expired on March 13, 2006. Therefore, because the Sentinel library could not find the valid signature after the certificate expired, the driver failed – returning error 104.

What drivers are affected by the expiry of the certificate?

Because it used a “new” certificate, only the driver that was released with the Sentinel Protection Installer 7.2.1 was affected. All older versions of the SPI and/or drivers are not affected in any way as they used an older certificate with a valid signature.

Has this problem been resolved?

Yes. Today we have released Sentinel Protection Installer 7.2.2 that includes the correctly signed driver and is available at http://c3.safenet-inc.com/downloads/F/C/FC2438B1-4DDB-4ECD-9A42-E58C4A441BE0/SPI722.zip.

Will we have future problems with driver signatures?

No. Our drivers are now signed with a certificate that has a valid signature and will not expire when the certificate expires. They will never expire. Also, we have devised additional test cases within our engineering teams to check for the validity of our signatures.
